The general release for Miva 9 was mid-November last year. The 90 day compliance grace period expires on February 12th. After that date, a monthly non-compliance fee will be charged by Miva for every merchant not on the current release of Miva. So, now would be a good time to plan your upgrade to Miva 9.
Miva 9 represents a big upgrade. Even though you could just click a link in the Miva admin and cross your fingers, you may want to hold off until you’ve considered a few possible gotchas:
Some plug-in modules will need to be upgraded before you upgrade to Miva 9
If your store is MMUI, and you plan to use Ready Themes, you may want to consider changing to CSSUI as part of the upgrade now.
The built-in price groups have been enhanced in Miva 9. If you’re using price groups in your Miva store, the enhanced settings should be revised prior to cutover.
If your store has a coupon module installed, the new built-in coupon redemption features should be reviewed to replace existing coupon redemption system.
The admin interface has been completely redesigned. Be prepared for a slight learning curve.
Per-seat admin user licensing. If you want to have more than one admin user logged in to the Miva admin at the same time, you’ll need to purchase additional seat licenses.
How it Works

A seat is the number of simultaneous active sessions in your Miva Merchant Admin. You will need one seat license per logged in user. Example: If you like to be logged in at the same time as your webmaster, you will need two seat licenses.
- Every hosting plan comes with 1 simultaneous, or “concurrent” user.
- You may have as many users as you like, but if you need 2 or more users to be logged in simultaneously you must purchase a license for each additional concurrent user.
- Each Additional License costs $50/month and can be purchased from the Miva Merchant admin.
Note: It is important for anyone who has an automated integration with Miva Merchant to purchase a seat license for this integration to use. However, multiple integrations may use the same seat license.
